What is Anemometer and its Uses ?


Anemometer is the device which can measure the speed of wind flow in the atmosphere . The term or word anemos means wind , which is derived from greek language . This device is used in Meteorology Department . Actually, In 1450 , the Italian art Architect named Leon Battista Alberti invented the first Anemometer. But In 1664 , this device was re-invented by Robert Hooke { mistakenly considered as first inventor of Anemometer}.



Uses of Anemometer :-

1.     Anemometer is used as common weather station instrument .
2.     This device is used for checking the flow of wind.
3.     To measure the wind pressure.


4.     To measure the direction of wind .
5.     It is used in Aerodynamics to measure the airspeed.
6.     It is also used by pilots and shooters etc .

Types of Anemometer :-


There are 5 major types of Anemometer. They are :-
1.     Cup Anemometer.
2.     Sonic Anemometer.
3.     Hotwire  Anemometer.
4.     Laser Doppler Anemometer.
5.     Windmill Anemometer.
